   At the request of Dennis, my former student in the Department of Economy,     University, I am glad to write this letter furnishing my evaluation of his academic aptitude for your reference. Unlike most of his peers, Dennis has demonstrated a great deal of independent thinking as a student at     University. For the courses in which he had a particular interest, he was fully devoted to excelling in those courses. I would go so far as to say that he was a perfectionist in this regard. His only weakness is that in courses that he felt were less suited to his interests, he did not study has hard as he would perhaps have been able to do. I noticed that his performance was less than satisfactory in both statistics and calculus. This surprised me because Dennis has strong quantitative skills as demonstrated in my international economics course. His performance in this class was exceptional.

   Dennis perhaps stands out most with regard to his extracurricular activities. He was a varsity tennis team player all four years he was a student. He represented the university in a national collegiate table tennis tournament each year. As a freshman, he received the award for best debater in the intramural freshman debate cup. As I recall, he was also an editor of his department’s journalist.

   Dennis has strong analytical, research and writing skills. I am very happy to see that Dennis has had such a successful career development since his graduation from   . I believe that Dennis will succeed in whatever endeavors he applies himself to. If you accept him, you will find that his drive and sense of purpose very contagious among the students.
